Dark Light

A Letter to Refaat

by Tasneem Khan

It was late when your tale arrived.
Its mangled head barely able to lift itself.
Shattered joints, smashed spine,
gaping wounds on either side
that exposed its punctured heart.

Imagine my surprise then,
when I held that heart.
That wild throbbing heart.

Hope was alive.
It sang your tale to me.
