Dark Light

mint

by Yumna Dagher

i spent all too much
time in june
weeding patches
that
bucked up to
my knees

begging,
they always grew
right back
arch their backs
in a dandelion
yawn
with the
courage
that
wild horse
things possess

its name in arabic
makes the same
sound when
you take a sprig
to chew on
in even spit bit
na3na,
na3na,
na3na,
it grits down
my teeth
in a turbine
whorl

i take a knotty
bunch in my hand
tuck into my
overall pocket
i could’ve sworn
it muttered
take enough
for the kettle at the center
of the Earth

make a cup of
tea for everyone
you know
