Dark Light

Heaven’s Gentle Veil

by Tony Nicholas Clark

The toxic petals of the Angel’s Trumpet
puffs and balloons against the jumping sun rays,
crisscrossing in the windowpane.
I swear I hear it conjure a hymn:

Come closer, come closer, let me bring you back to life again.

I offer nothing back but my nervous mumbles
of adoration, remembering how quickly it can bring
me to dust.

Come closer, come closer, let me bring you back to life again.

Shirin Abedinirad, Heaven on Earth, 2014. Installation art, Treviso, Italy. Presented at Fabrica, the Research Center of United Colours of Benetton, the work draws on Persian architectural traditions and Islamic geometry to transform a staircase into a mirrored passage of light, where sky becomes ground and reflection opens a fleeting vision of paradise, wonder, and spiritual transformation—artwork courtesy of featured artist Shirin Abedinirad.
